Kohli became an India regular and went on to become an India regular after 2010 and never got a chance to feature in India's premier domestic 50-over tournament.

Kohli enjoyed his best season in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2008-09, when he smashed an impressive 534 runs in 7 matches at an average of 117 and a strike rate of 87.31, including three centuries. Meanwhile, former India captain Rohit Sharma has returned to the domestic one-day tournament after six years. Rohit took the field for Mumbai as they locked horns with Sikkim in their opening game of the ongoing season at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday.

The Hitman's last appearance for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy came in October 2018. He played for Mumbai in the semi-final of the season against Hyderabad and scored 17 runs in the game in Bengaluru. Rohit missed the final due to national duty as Mumbai lifted the title.
