Virat Kohli slams 53rd ODI century in Raipur

Kohli continued his purple patch against South Africa to notch up his 53rd ODI ton in Raipur on Wednesday. The Indian run machine slammed his second successive ton after hammering a brilliant 135-run knock in the series opener in Ranchi last week. Kohli produced yet another batting masterclass to smash 102 off 93 balls in the 2nd ODI against the Proteas.

It was the 11th instance in his career that Kohli smashed back-to-back centuries in ODIs, the most by any player in the history of the format. AB de Villiers, who managed to achieve the feat six times in his career, is a distant second. It was Kohli's 25th ton for India while batting first, making him the first player to score 25 or more tons in ODIs while batting first and chasing.

While Kohli scored 102, Ruturaj Gaikwad played perfect support with his maiden ton in ODIs. Gaikwad slammed 105 runs off 83 balls, laced with 12 fours and two sixes. He shared a 195-run stand with Kohli for the 4th wicket to help India post a big total of 358/5 in 50 overs in Raipur.
