New Delhi: Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was part of Haryana’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad, but missed the final against Jharkhand on Thursday, December 17. He was ruled out of the match after being diagnosed with dengue and chikungunya.
With leg-spinner Chahal sidelined from the big match, Haryana struggled with the ball and suffered a 69-run defeat to Ishan Kishan-led Jharkhand. Chahal wished his team luck before the final, but the result did not go their way.
"I wished to be a part of the team but unfortunately I am down with dengue and chikungunya, which have really taken a toll on my health. The doctors have asked to focus only on rest and recovery. I’ll be back to the field and bowling to my full strength soon," Chahal wrote on X.
The out-of-favour India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan smashed a stunning century to power Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. Kishan hit 10 maximums and scored 101 runs off 49 balls. He stitched a 177-run partnership for the second wicket with Kumar Kushagra, who also amassed 81 runs off 38 balls with the help of eight boundaries and five maximums.
After their dismissal, Anukul Roy and Robin Minz played attacking shots against Haryana bowlers and stitched an unbeaten 75-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Anukul amassed 40 runs off 20 balls, smashing three boundaries and two maximums, while Robin Minz scored 32 runs off 14 balls with the help of three maximums as Jharkhand posted an imposing 262 for 3.
Jharkhand bowlers, led by pacer Anukul Roy, then struck twice in his first over while his team applied constant pressure by taking regular wickets to bowl out Haryana for 193, and lifted their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Pune.
