New Delhi: India's vice-captain Shubman Gill arrived in Ahmedabad on Thursday ahead of the fifth and final T20I match against South Africa. Even though being under an injury cloud after suffering a blow to his toe ahead of the fourth match, Gill reached the city along with the entire Indian contingent for the series finale on Friday.

The right-handed batter was ruled out of the fourth T20I in Lucknow due to an injury but the game got anyway abandoned due to excessive fog in the city on Wednesday. Though the batter has reached the city but it remains to be seen if Gill would be able to participate in the tournament finale or not. If he is not picked, it will make a place for Sanju Samson in the playing XI who has been out of the team for a while.

Apart from the injury concern, the Indian vice-captain has also struggled for runs in the series and had earlier missed the majority of the Test series against the Proteas due to a neck injury he suffered in the opener in Kolkata. After missing the Test series, he was later ruled out of the three-match ODI series as well.

The entire home tour of South Africa has not proved good for the young batter who was chosen as India's captain in two formats (Tests & ODIs) earlier in the year. Meanwhile, India lead the five-match series 2-1  and they would be looking to win the final battle so as to pocket the series. From here, India can't lose the series after the fourth T20I abandonment but South Africa can go down if they lose the final contest.

The Proteas would be aiming to win the fifth match at the Narendra Modi stadium so that they are able to end the series on a draw. This would be the last match for both the sides in this calendar year. After the culmination, India will take on New Zealand in a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series starting on January 11.
