WPL 2026: Jemimah Rodrigues unbeaten fifty helps Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets
Skipper Jemimah Rodrigues slammed a match-winning knock to help the Delhi Capitals beat the Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets and earn their second win in WPL 2026.
Captain Jemimah Rodrigues led from the front as her unbeaten fifty helped the Delhi Capitals (DC) beat the Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets to remain alive in the race for the playoffs in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026. Rodrigues starred with the bat to help DC chase down a tricky target of 155 runs at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara to bag their second win in the tournament.
Rodrigues scored 51 off 37 balls and stayed in the middle till the end to wrap up the chase with Marizanne Kapp, who sealed the victory for DC with a huge six enroute to her 10 not out off six deliveries. The Capitals bounced back to winning ways after their defeat against RCB in their last game to join MI, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants at 4 points each on the WPL 2026 points table.
RCB, who are in the top spot on the table with 10 points from five games, have already qualified for the playoffs and are in pole position to directly qualify for the final as the table-toppers. The remaining four teams are competing for the other two slots in the playoffs. The teams that finish 2nd and 3rd will battle in the Eliminator for a spot in the final.
Jemimah Rodrigues takes DC home in pressure chase
On Tuesday, skipper Rodrigues stepped up under pressure to take DC home with a valiant knock. In pursuit of a tricky target of 155 runs, DC got off to a flyer, thanks to a 63-run opening stand between Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee. Both openers batted in their usual attacking style and made good use of the Powerplay.
Their partnership was broken after spinner Vaishnavi Sharma dismissed Shafali on 29 off 24 balls in the 8th over. Lee continued her solid run at one end but departed soon after a quick stumping from MI keeper Rahila Firdous. The explosive batter scored 46 off 28 balls, studded with 7 fours and a six.
The momentum faded after Lee's wicket, and pressure intensified on DC after Laura Wolvaardt departed cheaply on 17 off 19 balls. However, Rodrigues kept finding the gaps and anchored the chase to perfection with timely boundaries. She scored a match-winning 51 and added an unbeaten 37-run stand for the 4th wicket with Kapp to take DC home.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Shree Charani turned out to be the pick of the bowlers for DC as she helped her side restrict MI to 154/5 despite an unbeaten 65 from Nat Sciver-Brunt and a 41-run knock from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Charani picked up the important wickets of Harmanpreet, Amanjot Kaur and Nicola Carey to finish with excellent figures of 3/33 off her 4 overs.
Race for playoffs heats up in WPL 2026
Mumbai Indians' defeat against DC dented their hopes of qualifying as the race for the playoffs heats up in WPL 2026. MI are currently 2nd on the points table with 4 points from six matches and a superior net run rate of +0.046. However, they remain on thin ice with only two games in hand and three teams on four points each.
A defeat in one of their remaining two matches might end MI's hopes of finishing in the top three to make it to the playoffs. Meanwhile, DC are in the fourth spot with 4 points after five matches at a net run rate of -0.586. They have three games in remaining and have a healthy chance of qualifying if they can perform consistently.
