New Delhi: The Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 trophy was unveiled in Mumbai on Monday morning with ICC chairman Jay Shah being among the main dignitaries present. Shah was accompanied on the podium by Yuvraj Singh, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and BCCI's Devajit Saikia as all of them graced the launch.

This comes up as an official kickstart to the marquee women's competition which is scheduled to be held in India majorly with few matches slated to take place in Sri Lanka. The 50-over spectacle will begin on September 30 with the final being played on November 2. Host nations India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play the first match with the high profile India vs Pakistan encounter taking place on October 5 in Colombo.

Apart from Bengaluru, Indore, Visakhapatnam and Guwahati are the other cities to host the matches of the World Cup while in the island nation, Colombo will be hosting the games. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is yet to get clearance from the Karnataka government after it was deemed unfit to host matches after the tragic stampeded during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL title celebration.

Uncertainty over Bengaluru stadium

As reported by Cricbuzz last week, since uncertainty is looming over the venue, the ICC and BCCI, which are on tenterhooks, are also thinking of a different venue if the iconic stadium does not get a green signal on time. Apart from India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Australia, England, Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are the other participating nations in the showpiece event.

The most successful team in the women's ODI World Cup history has been Australia with as many as seven titles. The Aussies bagged the last title as well and are the current champions in the 50-over format.

We want to break that barrier: Harmanpreet

Speaking on the occasion, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said that: 'We want to break that barrier which all Indians are waiting for. World Cups are always special, always want to do special for my country. Whenever I see Yuvi bhaiya (Yuvraj Singh) it gives me a lot of motivation,' Harmanpreet said.
