Emma Raducanu thrashes Janice Tjen in straight sets to enter third round at US Open 2025
Emma Raducanu cruised to the third round of the US Open 2025 after a thumping victory over Janice Tjen in her second-round clash on Wednesday.
Emma Raducanu stormed into the third round at the US Open 2025 with yet another dominant victory on Wednesday. The 2021 champion thrashed Janice Tjen 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets in their second-round clash to enter the third round of the tournament for the first time since her title triumph four years back. Raducanu looked in great form as she made light work of Tjen at the Armstrong Stadium.
After dispatching Shibahara in just 62 minutes in her opening round clash, Raducanu continued her dominant run to beat Tjen inside just 60 minutes, recording the quickest Grand Slam victory of her career so far. Raducanu made a strong start in the match and dominated the proceedings throughout to secure a commanding win.
Ahead of the match, Tjen, who has been playing her first Grand Slam event, was expected to cause some problems for Raducanu after she showcased her skills in her victory against 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round. However, she turned out to be no match for Raducanu, who was at her dominant best in the match.
23-year-old Indonesian Tjen turned professional last year, but has turned heads with her performances on the ITF World Tennis Tour, winning 13 titles. She is known for her crafty style of tennis, but Raducanu ensured she gave no chance to the youngster to trouble her during their Round of 32 clash.
Making full use of her power from the baseline, Raducanu used her newly developed strong serve against Tjen to continuously push her back and hit eight aces during the match. Raducanu also won 76% of points on her first serves and made life difficult for the 23-year-old.
Raducanu might face Rybakina in 3rd round
The 2021 champion will now face the winner of the match between ninth seed Elena Rybakina and qualifier Tereza Valentova in the third round. Raducanu, who has registered straight-set wins in both her matches at the US Open 2025, has reached the third round after dropping just six games, the fewest she has dropped to reach the 3rd round of a Grand Slam in her career so far.
