Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has said that he feels very proud after giving a javelin event like the Neeraj Chopra Classic to the country. Chopra, speaking in Bengaluru ahead of the maiden edition of the landmark javelin competition, believes that something significant has started in Indian athletics and now the country needs multiple events like this.
Neeraj, who finally breached the 90m mark this year at the Paris Diamond League, is living a life full of dreams as the competition which he has organised along with JSW Sports bears his name. The Neeraj Chopra Classic will be held on July 5, Saturday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Chopra also said that he will try to upscale the event in the future.

He further added that he feels like being in a dream and the main thing is that he is not thinking about medals as medals are a different thing. He is proud about that he has been able to give something of this sort to India and to Indian athletes. Chopra further added that this marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of athletics in India.
Further lauding the government, Chopra said that he is getting the support from everyone including the government. Starting from the government, the Karnataka Olympic Association, the World Athletics, the sponsors and everyone else is supporting in the cause. This has made the double Olympic medallist feel that this event can be made better.
Chopra said he wanted to make the athletics competitions in India comparable to the events which are held regularly in the traditional powerhouses like the USA or European nations. At the end, he said that this is the beginning of international competitions in India.
