New Delhi: Champions Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat against Brentford, losing their fourth consecutive match in the Premier League to continue their poor run of form.
Brentford's Dango Ouattara scored the opening goal in just the fifth minute of the match from a long throw, and Kevin Schade made it 2-0 for the hosts in the 45th minute of the game.
Milos Kerkez netted the opening goal for the visitors in first-half stoppage time with his first club goal from Conor Bradley's cross.
Liverpool started the second half brilliantly and looked dangerous in attack to score the equaliser, but failed against Brentford's defence. Igor Thiago netted from the penalty spot in the 60th minute of the match to restore Brentford's two-goal advantage.
Mohamed Salah gave the visitors some hope with a clinical finish in the 89th minute, but they had left it too late. This was Brentford's second consecutive win, and they moved up to 10th place, just two points behind Liverpool.
Arne Slot's side is now sixth in the standings with 15 points, four behind table-toppers Arsenal, who will look to extend that margin on Sunday when they take on Crystal Palace at home.

This is the first time since 2021 that Liverpool have lost four consecutive league matches, with three of those games in London after defeats against Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
The Reds started their title defence brilliantly, but suffered defeats against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Brentford, and Manchester United. They have lost four of their first nine matches, as many as they did in the whole of the 2024/25 season.
Liverpool had spent more than 400 million pounds in the summer transfer window on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Alexander Isak, but have struggled in the ongoing season after winning the club's record-equalling 20th league title in Slot's first season.
After the defeat, Slot said that teams have a certain play style against them, which is a very good strategy, and they haven't found any answer to that yet.
"If you change quite a lot during the summer, then I think it's not a surprise that it can go a bit like this, but I didn't expect it to go with four losses in a row," Slot added.
Liverpool will next face Aston Villa in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday, November 2.
