Champions League: Chelsea thrash Barcelona, Leverkusen stun Manchester City as Newcastle lose to Marseille

Chelsea dominated ten-man FC Barcelona with a thumping 3-0 victory in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Chelsea's young winger Estevao Willian outshone Lamine Yamal and scored a stunner to help his side secure a crucial victory. Pep Guardiola's woes deepened as Manchester City lost 2-0 against Bayer Leverkusen.

Newcastle United too suffered a crushing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ligue 1 side Marseille. Scott McTominay shone to help Napoli beat Qarabag 2-0, while Borussia Dortmund hammered Villarreal 4-0 with the help of a brace from Serhou Guirassy. Benfica beat Ajax 2-0, while Galatasaray lost to Union Saint-Gilloise 1-0.

Chelsea 3-0 Barcelona

Chelsea produced an impressive display to crush ten-man Barcelona 3-0 and take a huge step towards securing an automatic qualifying place in the Champions League 2025-26. Jules Kounde scored an own goal in the 27th minute to give Chelsea the lead, before Barcelona skipper Ronald Araujo was sent off at the end of the first half.

Chelsea's young winger Estevao Willian, scored the second goal for his side with a stunning effort. Willian was impressive throughout the game and comfortably outshone Yamal. Liam Delap added a third goal in the 73rd minute to complete a thumping 3-0 win for Chelsea.

Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Manchester City 

Bayer Leverkusen stunned Manchester City with a 2-0 win against them in Pep Guardiola's 100th Champions League game at the Etihad on Wednesday. The Bundesliga side beat City 2-0 in their own backyard with the help of goals from Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrik Schick. Leverkusen ended Manchester City's 23-game unbeaten run at home in the Champions League group stage with their stunning victory.

Grimaldo scored the opener for the Bundesliga side in the 23rd minute, completing a successful counter attack by scoring from a cross from Malik Tillman that was laid out to him by Christian Kofane. Schick doubled Leverkusen's lead in the 54th minute with a towering header to seal an important win for his team.

Marseille 2-1 Newcastle United

Ligue 1 side Marseille continued their red-hot form to beat Premier League outfit Newcastle United in the Champions League on Wednesday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a brace to help Marseille beat Newcastle 2-1 to end their three-match winning streak in the Champions League this season. Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle an early lead in the sixth minute, however, Aubameyang scored twice in the second half to help Marseille secure a comeback win.

Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Villarreal

Borussia Dortmund returned to form in the Champions League 2025-26 with a thumping 4-0 win against 10-man Villarreal on Wednesday. Serhou Guirassy scored a brace to star in Dortmund's victory. The Guinean striker scored the opener for the Bundesliga side in the injury time before the break. He made it 2-0 in the 54th minute after scoring from a rebound off his penalty. Karim Adeyemi added a third for Dortmund in the 58th minute before Daniel Svensson scored a late goal to make it 4-0.
