England international Foden put City ahead in 59 seconds before Josko Gvardiol extended the lead on 25 minutes but Leeds fought back with two second half goals.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin reduced the deficit and Lukas Nmecha, a former City academy player, equalised to put focus on City’s suspect defence that has been exposed in defeats over the past week to Newcastle in the EPL and Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Foden’s curling shot from the edge of the area in the first minute of stoppage time ensured three points when only one looked likely as Leeds remained in the relegation zone.

It was the third straight game that Erling Haaland couldn’t score, after 17 strikes in previous 18 matches for club and country as his wait for 100th EPL goal continues.

“He'll do it next game," said Guardiola, who was involved animated discussion with the Norwegian on the field after the final whistle.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke wasn’t impressed in what he deemed City’s gamesmanship during the visiting team’s dominantion in the second half.

“If you just try to bend the rules to your advantage and you can do a fake injury in order to do an additional team talk, it is nothing I personally like, but if it is within the rules, I can't complain about it,” Farke said.

Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw’s glancing header from a corner in 55 seconds became the fastest goal this season on way to their 4-1 win at Everton.

Tottenham slumped to three loses in seven days, after conceding two goals in the first six minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Fulham.
