New Delhi: Raphinha scored a brace as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-2 to win the Spanish Super Cup title on Sunday in Jeddah. The match turned into a thriller with four goals scored in the first half.
Both teams started the match well, but Barcelona took control of the match as Raphinha struck a low shot into the far corner to give his side a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute of the game. Real Madrid netted the equaliser in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, with Vinicius Jr skipping past two Barcelona defenders and smashing a shot into the far corner.
Just two minutes later, Robert Lewandowski finished with a delicate chip to restore Barcelona’s lead, only for the chaos to continue moments before the interval. The chaos continued before the interval as Gonzalo Garcia scored on the rebound, with the ball hitting both the bar before crossing the line, bringing both clubs level again.
Barcelona scored their third goal in the 73rd minute of the match as Raphinha's shot took a deflection off a Real Madrid defender, wrong-footing keeper Thibaut Courtois and went into the net. Barcelona were reduced to 10 men after Frenkie de Jong was sent off for a foul on Kylian Mbappe. The Los Blancos pressed hard in the final few minutes but failed to make their numerical advantage count.
