I want to stay at this club for..: Ruben Amorim reveals his Manchester United legacy plan
Rúben Amorim wants to be the manager of Manchester United for 20 years and lead the team back to its glory days.
New Delhi: Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag as the manager of Manchester United last November. He only managed to win just 7 matches out of the 27 Premier League games last season as the club finished in 15th position. This was their worst season in the last 51 years.
Amorim still has two years left on his contract with an option to extend for another season, and he has promised to make the Red Devils Premier League champions again and set his sights on leading the club for decades like Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I want to stay – I want to stay 20 [years],” Amorim said. "That is my goal and I truly believe in that. Something will happen. It always does," Amorim said in an interview with MUTV.
He added that in some moments he will be lucky, and he had a lot of luck during his career as a manager, and his idea is to stay for many years. Amorim also said that it was the same thing at Sporting CP, as they told him that in three months, he would be out of the club.
"But I don’t like to change clubs. I like to bond with people and carry on. I know it sounds crazy but I chose this club. I had the feeling and I just want to bond, to be part of it and I will stay here," he added.
Amorim has followed Pep Guardiola’s step and formed a strong leadership group, including skipper Bruno Fernandes, defenders Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
The Portuguese head coach also talked about last season and said that he was really frustrated with the performances, and when a manager loses so many matches, it becomes hard for everybody to believe in the idea.
'I’m really happy with the players that we bring in'
Manchester United have signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window and are hoping to beat Newcastle United to bring in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. Talking about the new players, Amorim said that he's happy with the signings and said that they have proved themselves in the Premier League, and he's not concerned about their physical aspect.
"All the players that we want to bring to Manchester, any coach would want them. I can guarantee you, if you bring any manager here, they will say: ‘Bryan, thank you. Matheus Cunha, thank you.’ And then you have the potential of these kids that are really important for us" Amorim added.
