Man United manager Ruben Amorim welcomes Ratcliffes support but admits things can change quickly
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim welcomed co-owner Jim Ratcliffe's backing on Friday, but stressed that it does not ease the immediate pressure to improve results at Old Trafford.
New Delhi: Manchester United will take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, October 19. Ahead of the big fixture, head coach Ruben Amorim got the public backing of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Since joining the club, Amorim's record has drawn immense criticism, with the Red Devils only managing to win just 10 games out of the 34 Premier League matches and yet to register back-to-back league wins.
Last week Ratcliffe said that Amorim will be given three years to prove himself after a disappointing 11 months in charge. Man United are currently placed 10th in the points table, and were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two’s Grimsby in August.
The Portuguese manager has welcomed Ratcliffe’s backing but stated that he and the minority owner know that "football is not like that".
'It helps our fans understand the leadership knows it's going to take time'
Speaking ahead of United's Premier League fixture against Liverpool, Amorim said that it's really good to hear that, and Ratcliffe tells him this all the time.
"But you know, I know, and Jim knows, football is not like that. The most important thing is the next game. Even with owners, you cannot control the next day in football," Ruben said.
The United head coach insisted that the internal environment at the Carrington training ground remains calm and stable despite massive criticism and speculation about his future. Amorim made it clear that he wants to turn United around as soon as possible, and is putting pressure on himself and the team to improve.
"But at the same moment, I don't like it because it gives a feeling that we have time to work things out. I don't want that feeling in our club. The pressure I put on the team or on myself is far bigger. In football, especially at big clubs, you need to prove yourself every weekend," he added.
Senne Lammens, who made an impressive debut in United’s 2-0 win against Sunderland before the international break, is expected to start at Anfield.
