Marcus Rashford makes debut, Lamine Yamal scores as Barcelona thrash 9-man Mallorca 3-0 in La Liga
Marcus Rashford made his debut for FC Barcelona as Hansi Flick's men defeated 9-man Mallorca 3-0 in their opening match of the La Liga 2025-26 season.
FC Barcelona got off to a winning start in the La Liga 2025-26 season with a controversial 3-0 victory against nine-man Mallorca in their opener on Sunday. Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal scored a goal apiece to steer Barcelona to a comfortable victory at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. England forward Marcus Rashford made his La Liga debut for Barcelona in their thumping win.
Raphinha put Barcelona ahead seven minutes into the game with a brilliant goal. He got on the end of an excellent cross from Yamal from the right wing and put it past the Mallorca keeper to put his side 1-0 ahead. Torres doubled Barcelona's lead in the 23rd minute. The goal came in controversial circumstances as Mallorca captain Antonio Raillo was on the ground following a head injury from blocking a shot from Yamal.
Many thought the game had paused after Raillo went down, but Torres capitalised and scored. His goal stood in the end as Barcelona led 2-0 in the first half. Mallorca lost their way after conceding two early goals and saw two of their players getting sent off in the first half, ending all hopes of a comeback.
Manu Morlanes was the first player to be sent off for Mallorca after he got a second yellow card for a foul on Yamal in the 33rd minute. The Spanish midfielder had been booked after showing dissent to the referee in the aftermath of Torres' controversial goal earlier in the first half. A second yellow following his foul on Yamal meant he had to leave the pitch.
Mallorca's woes worsened as Vedat Muriqui was also sent off, minutes later. Mjuriqi was initially shown a yellow card for his high boot challenge on Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia, playing his first La Liga game for the club. However, his yellow was later changed to a red card following a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
Barcelona headed into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, but found it difficult to score in the second half despite Mallorca having been reduced to 9 men. It was Yamal who scored the final third goal in the stoppage time to seal a 3-0 victory for his side. It was a brilliant goal from the Barcelona sensation, who battled past 9 men before smashing the ball into the back of the net.
Marcus Rashford came on as a substitute
Rashford came on as a substitute against Mallorca on his La Liga debut for Barcelona. The Manchester United forward has joined the La Liga giants on a season-long loan after having a fallout with United manager Ruben Amorim, who didn't consider him part of his plans at the club this season. Rashford failed to score in the game, but became the first English player since Gary Lineker in 1989 to play for Barcelona in a competitive game.
