Mbappe lights up to end Real Madrids La Liga winless streak

New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe’s stupendous brace lifted Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao and ended their three-game winless run in LaLiga.

The victory moved Real to 36 points from 15 matches but kept them in second place, one behind league leaders Barcelona.

Real were bright right from kick-off as Mbappe put them ahead in the seventh minute.

The France international received a long ball near the halfway line, and raced his way past two defenders in a dazzling solo run before curling is shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Madrid increased their lead just before half-time as they were rewarded for a patient build-up play.

Full back Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered an accurate cross from the right wing to the far post for Mbappe to nod the ball back inside the six-yard box, where Eduardo Camavinga headed in from six yards.

After the break, Real eased off the tempo a bit, but Mbappe always sniffed for goals and caught Bilbao keeper Unai Simon out of position with a swerving shot from outside the box in the 59th minute to confirm the win.

Mbappe now has 25 goals in 20 matches across competitions this season, 16 of them has come in La Liga from 15 matches and another 9 in the Champions League from 5 matches.

Overall, he has netted 69 goals for Real Madrid in 79 appearances, 47 of them have come in 49 La Liga appearances.

He is is involved in 20 La Liga goals this season and is the first player in Europe's top five leagues to score 25 club goals across all competitions this season.
