Mbappe one goal shy of Ronaldo’s Real Madrid scoring record

New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe is only a goal away from touching Cristiano Ronaldo’s calendar-year scoring record for Real Madrid.

Through a brace in Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory at Talavera de la Reina, he edged closer to Ronaldo’s 59-goal mark set in 2013.

Griezmann shines

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Antoine Griezmann led Atletico Madrid to a 3-2 victory against fourth-tier side Atletico Baleares.

The Frenchman put Atletico ahead in the 16th minute after exchanging passes with Thiago Almada and Conor Gallagher.

Within minutes, Atletico were two-nil up as Giacomo Raspadori headed in Nahuel Molina's cross.

Baleares reduced the margin through Gerardo Bonet but Griezmann's restored the two-goal lead from Javi Galan's delivery before the hosts threatened in the final stages.

Jaume Tovar missed a penalty and Mouhamadou Keita converted from the spot in the 90th minute for Baleares as Atletico survived the anxious final moments to advance.
