New Delhi: Manchester United defeated Bournemouth 4-1 in a brilliant display at Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago on Thursday, July 31. Rasmus Hojlund scored the opening goal of the match in the 8th minute with his early header.
Patrick Dorgu netted the second in the 25th minute, outmuscling Julian Araujo as the Red Devils outclassed the Cherries throughout the match. Antoine Semenyo’s powerful strike was ruled out for a marginal offside in the second half.
Amad Diallo scored the third goal in the 53rd minute as United continued to dominate the game. Andono Irola made five changes, and the decision almost proved right when Brooks hit the crossbar with a deflected shot, and Heaton denied Semenyo from the corner.
Youngster Ethan Williams also netted a goal in the 72nd minute. Matthijs de Ligt scored an own goal after diverting the ball past Tom Heaton late in the game to offer some consolation for Bournemouth, but Ruben Amorim's players looked sharper throughout.
United's new signings, Bryan Mbeumo, missed the match due to fitness problems and Matheus Cunha was omitted due to fatigue. Both forwards are expected to play the club's last match of the Premier League Summer Series. The Red Devils won their opening match of the tournament by 2-1 against West Ham, and if they beat Everton in their final game, they will lift the trophy.
Lucas Paqueta and Niclas Fullkrug scored goals as West Ham beat Everton 2-1 in Chicago on Thursday. Harrison Armstrong scored the opening goal for the Toffees in the 17th minute, but West Ham equalised in the 42nd minute after a poor mistake by Everton’s backup goalkeeper, Mark Travers.
Germany international Niclas Fullkrug netted the second goal in the 64th minute to seal the victory for the Hammers. This was another pre-season setback for Everton as the club was beaten 0-3 by Bournemouth on Saturday. The four-team competition will conclude in Atlanta on Sunday, with Manchester United facing Everton and West Ham taking on Bournemouth.
