Spain end 2025 as top-ranked team in FIFA rankings

Euro 2024 champions Spain will end 2025 at the top of the men's FIFA rankings. The latest and final rankings of the year were released on Monday, with little change from the previous list released on November 19.

The top 10 remain unchanged with Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Croatia following Spain, who stood firm at the top, having displaced Argentina from the top of the pile in the September instalment of standings.

Morocco (11th, unchanged) fell just short of breaking into the top 10 for the first time since April 1998 after clinching the regional crown in Doha, Qatar. The African/Arab nation ended 2025, trailing Croatia (10th, unchanged) by just 0.54 points. Spain, Argentina and France (3rd, unchanged) round off the podium in the end-of-year line-up.

Spain, which topped the World Cup Group E qualifying, will face off against Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde in Group H at the 2026 tournament scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

According to FIFA, Vietnam, which rose three places to 107th in the rankings, registered the biggest leap. Jordan (64th, up 2) and Singapore (148th, up 3) were among the big movers.

Among the standout performers were Norway (29th, unchanged), which earned 68.70 points, and Suriname (123rd, unchanged), which has moved up 15 places since the December 2024 ranking. Twelve other countries have also shot up between 10 and 14 places over the past year.

The next instalment of the rankings will be published on January 19.
