New Delhi; FIFA unveiled the official match ball for the 2026 World Cup, a tournament that will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada on Thursday. Trionda is the name given to the official ball. The ball has been crafted once again by long-time World Cup partner Adidas, blending modern technology with symbolic design elements celebrating the unity of the three host nations.

The unveiling took place in New York with FIFA President Gianni Infantino describing Trionda as “a reflection of unity, innovation, and passion.” The name itself carries meaning as it has been drawn from the Spanish words for “three waves.” It represents the historic tri-nation format of the 2026 edition, the first World Cup to feature 48 teams across three countries.

Adidas, which has supplied every official World Cup ball since 1970 has infused Trionda with both artistic flair and cutting-edge design. The vibrant colour combination of red, green and blue pays homage to the host nations' flags as red for Canada, green for Mexico and blue for the United States.

While the exterior celebrates the culture, the ball also has advanced features to enhance on-field performance. Adidas had Trionda's deep seams engineered for improved flight stability while embossed textures helps in maintaining grip even in humid conditions.

Just like Qatar 2022, a built-in motion sensor chip has also been added that will relay real-time data to assist the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, ensuring greater accuracy in key decisions.

Countdown to World Cup begins

The reveal marks another major milestone in the buildup to the 2026 World Cup, which will kick off on June 11 and run until July 19. The tournament promises to be the largest in history, featuring 48 teams competing across North America.

FIFA has already begun phased online ticket sales with over 4.5 million fans from 216 countries registering interest.

The final draw for the tournament is scheduled to take place in Washington on December 5.

As the anticipation builds, the unveiling of Trionda sets the tone, marking a symbol of global unity and innovation that will be at the heart of football’s biggest celebration next year.
