Kevin Durant has scripted history by becoming the highest-earning player in NBA history after signing a two-year contract extension worth a whopping $90 million with Houston Rockets. Durant's career earnings are projected to surpass that of Lebron James, putting the Houston star on top of the elite list of players with highest career earnings in NBA history.

Durant was eligible for a contract extension of maximum of $120 million for the next two years. However, he decided to sacrifice $30 million to extend his stay with Houston Rockets, keeping their long-term partnership in mind. Durant also wanted to give Houston enough flexibility to build their squad.

Nonetheless, His new $90 million deal for the next two seasons has taken his overall career earnings to a whopping $598.2 million, taking current and future salaries into account, surpassing Lebron James ($583.9) to make him the highest-earning player in NBA history. James will be making $54.7 million in the current season and has a contract worth $144.7 million for the next three years.

One of NBA's most prolific scorers, Durant recently joined the Rockets as part of largest trade in the competition's history. His new two-year extension with the team underlines his ambition to win the title with the Texas-based franchise. Rockets, who are the reigning no.2 seed in the Western Conference have become genuine title contenders after roping in Durant.

His two-year contract with the Rockets has a player option for the 2027-28 season. The Rockets confirmed the extension deal on Sunday, without disclosing the details.

Kevin Durant averages 25 points per game 

A 15-time All-Star, Durant is currently eighth in NBA career points and needs 990 points in the ongoing season to go past Wilt Chamberlain and Dirk Nowitzki on the elite list of all-time top scorers in the league's history.

Durant, who holds the record for most career points per game for the Brooklyn Nets and Oklahoma City, has averaged an impressive 25 points per game for the last 16 seasons. He is only behind James, who has averaged 25 points per game for 20 consecutive seasons. 

A future Hall of Famer, Durant averaged 26.6 points in 62 games with his former team, the Suns and will be hoping to continue his stellar run with the Houston Rockets after signing a two-year extension with the side.
