Novak Djokovic ended the season on a high with a triumph at the Hellenic Championship in Athens on Sunday. The 24-time Grand Slam champion defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final to clinch the Athens title. The Serbian ace got off to a shaky start in the final, losing the first set 6-4, however, he bounced back to claim the next two sets in a row to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Djokovic, who is the most successful male player in tennis history, broke an all-time record held by the legendary Roger Federer after clinching the Athens title. It was Djokovic's 72nd hard-court title as he shattered Federer's record for most hard-court titles by any player in tennis history.
The Serbian ace became the first player to reach 72 hard-court singles titles in men's tennis. Andre Agassi is third on the elite list with 46 hard-court titles to his name in his career.

The win in Athens also helped Djokovic lift his 101st career title as he jumped to the 11th spot on the elite list of players with the most men's singles titles in tennis history. At 38 years and 5 months, the 24-time Grand Slam champion also became the oldest player to win an ATP event since Ken Rosewall in 1977.
Djokovic, who became only the third male player in the Open Era to complete 100 ATP titles earlier this year, is currently third on the list of players with the most men's singles titles in the Open Era. Jimmy Connors tops the elite list with 109 titles, followed by Federer, who finished his career with 103 titles.

Djokovic ended his season by winning the Hellenic Championship at Athens on Sunday. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was expected to feature in the ATP Finals, however, he announced he will not be taking part in the competition due to injury issues.
“I’m sad to share that I need to withdraw due to an ongoing injury," Djokovic said in a statement. His decision to pull out means his final opponent at Athens, Musetti, will take his spot at the ATP Finals.
