Roger Federer: Swiss maestro leads 2026 nominees for the International Tennis Hall of Fame

Swiss maestro Roger Federer leads the nominations list for the International Tennis Hall of Fame's class of 2026. The list of nominees was announced on Wednesday.
Widely regarded as the most elegant and one of the finest tennis players of all time, Federer left a legacy that will be etched in the hearts of tennis fans forever.
Federer was the first man to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles and redefined the game with his class. elegance and consistency. His incredible rivalry with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, till it lasted, is regarded as one of the greatest rivalries in sporting history.
The iconic athlete won 103 trophies and 1,251 matches in singles - tallies only behind Jimmy Connors in the Open era, which began in 1968.
Renowned for sublime forehand and serve, an attacking, all-court style, nimble footwork, and effortless style of play, Federer finished five seasons at No. 1 in the ATP rankings and spent a record 237 consecutive weeks at the top.
He led Switzerland to the 2014 Davis Cup title and claimed a doubles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics alongside his partner Stan Wawrinka.
An era of dominance
During his peak period, Federer reached a record 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals from 2005-07, winning eight titles in that period. He would go on to extend that dominance by making 18 of 19 major finals into 2010.
An ambassador for the game, Federer played his last match at Wimbledon in 2021 when he was a month shy of 40.
However, he officially drew curtains on his career the following year and bid farewell with an appearance alongside Nadal in doubles at the Laver Cup.
Kuznetsova, Del Potro on Tennis Hall of Fame ballot
Federer is joined in the nominees list by two-time major singles champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and 2009 U.S. Open winner Juan Martin del Potro. The inductees will be revealed in November.
Federer is among a select few to win at least one singles trophy from each of the four Majors, winning eight at Wimbledon, six at the Australian Open, five at the U.S. Open and one at the French Open. He completed his career Grand Slam by winning the French Open in 2009.
His first Grand Slam title came at Wimbledon 2003, while he broke the long-standing record of Pete Sampras' 14 Slam titles by conquering the All England Club in 2009 with a remarkable win over Andy Roddick.
Federer won 20 Grand Slam titles. He was surpassed by Nadal, who retired with 22 Majors. Djokovic surpassed both and has 24 titles to his name.
