Sindhu clears first round challenge at China Masters

New Delhi: Top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won her first round match in straight games at the China Masters Super 750 tournament in Shenzhen on Wednesday.
She defeated Julie Dawall Jakobsen of Denmark 21-4, 21-10 on only 27 minutes to advance to the pre-quarterfinals, in under 10 days of her opening round loss at Hong Kong.
The two-time Olympic medallist had lost to Dane Line Christophersen in the first round at the Super tournament in Hong Kong. The former world champion has already lost six times in the first round of BWF World Tour tournaments this years.
But on Shenzhen, she was in her elements as she quickly accumulated a healthy lead and won the first 10 games in 10 minutes, before carrying on the momentum to close out the match without much difficulty.
It was the 30-year-old third win against Jakobsen, but unlike the last time they met at the Swiss Open in March, this turned out to be an easy outing.
Among the other Indians in the tournament, Ayush Shetty went down to sixth-seeded Chou Tien Chen in his first-round match.
It was Shetty's third successive loss to Chen after Taipei and US Opens, as he went down 19-21 21-12 16-21 in 68 minutes.
Ruthvika Gadde and Rohan Kapoor lost 17-21 11-21 to Japan's Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara in mixed doubles.
Another mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto begin campaign against second seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping of China.
