We get very little time to train, says Neeraj Chopra ahead of NC Classic

Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra on Thursday said that the toughest part in the sport is training and the javelin throwers across the globe get very little time to train. Neeraj's comments came ahead of the the maiden Neeraj Chopra Classic javelin throw event which will be held in Bengaluru on July 5 after a delay of over a month due to the political tensions between India and Pakistan.

The Neeraj Chopra Classic will see participation from 12 javelin throwers across the globe, which will see 5 Indian and 7 overseas athletes. The double Olympic medallist also said that shouldering the organisational responsibilities and managing his personal preparations at the same time are some of his biggest challenges ahead of the international event that has been organised by him along with JSW Sports.

After two highly competitive events in Paris and Ostrava, Czech Republic, some of the ace athletes in the world will come together on the field to take part in one of most anticipated javelin events of 2025. The Ostrava Golden Spike competition was on June 24 while the Paris Diamond League was on June 20, and Neeraj had won both the events.

On getting little time for training, Neeraj said that he competed in Paris and Ostrava and then travelled to Bengaluru with very little time to train in between. He said that considering the little gap in between, he will try his best to deliver a good result. The javelin thrower, speaking during a felicitation function organised by the Karnataka Olympic Association, added that he has to arrange everything together as well.

The 27-year-old reigning world champion said Bengaluru was the perfect venue to host an event of such magnitude. The biggest reason to do it in Bangalore was that it is a very good city, he added.
