Weight lifter Priteesmita Bhoi sets world record for Youth Asian Games gold
She lifted 92kg in clean & jerk to break the world youth record, and 66kg in snatch to aggregate 158kg to stand at the top of the podium.
New Delhi: Priteesmita Bhoi broke the world youth record in clean & jerk to win weightlifting gold in the girls' 44kg category at the Youth Asian Games in Manama on Sunday.
She lifted 92kg in clean & jerk to break the world youth record, and 66kg in snatch to aggregate 158kg to stand at the top of the podium.
The 16-year-old lifted 87kg in her first clean & jerk attempt, lifting three kilograms more in her second lift and finally successfully took up 92kgs for the record.
In snatch, after lifting 66kg in her first attempt, she failed in her next two attempts of 68kg and 69kg.
Silver for Maharajan
India was also on the podium in the boys' 60kg category as Maharajan Arumugapandian finished second with a combined weight of 256kg.
The 17-year-old lifted 114kg in snatch and 142 in clean & jerk to be behind China's Chen Xunfa, who aggregated a total lift of of 261kg (120kg in snatch, 141 in clean & jerk).
India's medals tally increased to 23, including three gold, nine silver and 11 bronze, having won 17 medals, including two gold, six silver and nine bronze, by Saturday.
India also claimed silver in the girls' medley relay with the quartet of Edwina Jason, Tannu, Avinash Shourya and Bhumika Nehate clocking 2:09.65 seconds, behind UAE (2:07.79 seconds), and ahead of China (2:10.14 seconds).
India finished fifth in the boys' medley relay team, clocking 1:59.96 seconds even as Anjali Jakhar finished fourth in the girls' individual time trial cycling medal with a timing of 17:43.89 seconds.
Siya Banjara and Misti Karmakar were seventh and eighth in the girls' javelin throw, with throws of 42.32m and 42.05m, respectively. Uzbekistan's Parizoda Talabova won the gold with a throw of 53.08m.
In girls' high jump, Yashvitha Potanapalli finished at the bottom of 10 competitors with a best effort of 1.50m, while in boys' discus throw, Swapnil Dutta was sixth with a throw of 51.53m.
In boxing, Khushi Chand won her girls' 46kg quarter-final bout against Saudi Arabia's Wareef Mohammed Alshehri, while Aahana Sharma entered the girls' 50kg semifinal with a win over Bhutan's Sangay Peldon.
Pugilist Chandrika Pujari beat Japan's Yui Hatakeyama in the 54kg quarter-finals, while Harshika was beaten in her 60kg bout to China's Wang Jingjing.
Anshika also won her 80-plus kg bout against Uzbekistan's Mavjuda Abdusaidova, while Shivani Toor lost in the quarters of the 75kg category to China's Zheng Shan.
