Apple AirTag leads man to thief wearing his stolen clothes
A Los Angeles man recovered his stolen luggage using an Apple AirTag hidden inside his suitcase. The tracker led him and police to an abandoned building, where a suspect was found wearing his clothes.
Apple AirTag helped a Los Angeles man to find his stolen suitcase after flying out of Salt Lake City. Daniel Scott had packed the coin-sized tracker in his luggage, which went missing at LAX baggage claim. Unable to locate it on the carousel, he used his phone and watched the AirTag move out of the airport, reported by NCB Los Angeles.
Scott jumped into an Uber to chase the clue, and his companion phoned airport police. The trail led to a deserted building where there were a number of persons discovered by the officers. One of them was wearing his clothes, to the surprise of Scott. Several suspects were arrested by police, and Scott retrieved much of what he owned, though his suitcase was lost.
AirTags proving their worth
AirTags are no longer just a device that forgetful owners use since they were launched in 2021. They have assisted individuals to reclaim stolen vehicles, trace costly tools and currently, baggage. Airlines are not left behind, and some of them are now implementing this technology, with some even enabling customers to send AirTag information to accelerate the retrieval of lost luggage.
The gadgets cause safety concerns. They have been used improperly to stalk people; also, Apple and Google provided alerts to notify users about an unknown tracker following them. Scott and other travellers find the risks insignificant when AirTags are the keys to peace and serenity when moving around.
