Apple expands Live Translation to AirPods 4 with ANC and AirPods Pro 2

Apple is bringing one of the most exciting audio capabilities of its latest earbuds to devices other than its most recent earbuds. The company clarified at the iPhone event today that Live Translation is not going to stay special to the AirPods Pro 3 only. The real-time translation feature will also be released on the upcoming AirPods 4 with Advanced Noise Cancellation (ANC) and the current 2nd-generation AirPods Pro.

The feature is only compatible with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and supported earbuds need the latest firmware update. By doing this, Apple will mean that those who already have the more recent models will not feel forced to keep up with the new AirPods Pro 3 that cost $249 to have the ability to translate.

Live Translation is used to enable the user to conduct real-time multilingual communication via their AirPods. The software translates oral language in real time, which means that cross-language communication becomes more natural and less dependent on third-party applications. The feature will be launched with English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. Before the year ends, Apple intends to include Italian, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese.

Apple AirPods Pro 3 are now pre-orderable at $249 for those who are interested in the latest hardware. They add an in-built heart rate sensor, improved noise cancellation, improved battery life and spatial audio playback. Although they are the newest earbuds available in the premium category, the fact that Apple has decided to implement Live Translation in their older models provides their customers with a few more options.
