New Delhi: Apple has unveiled a refreshed AirTag with a stronger focus on findability, range, and everyday convenience. The new tracker brings a more powerful Ultra Wideband chip, a much louder speaker, and, for the first time, Precision Finding support on Apple Watch, while keeping the same familiar design.

The update is aimed at making lost items easier to recover, whether they’re buried inside a bag or left behind at a café. Apple says the new AirTag also continues its privacy-first approach, with built-in anti-stalking safeguards and encrypted location sharing across the Find My network.

India price and availability

The new AirTag is priced the same as the previous model in India. A single unit costs Rs 3,790, while a four-pack is available for Rs 12,900. Buyers can still opt for free personalised engraving when ordering online. Apple’s FineWoven Key Ring accessory is sold separately for Rs 3,900.

The tracker works with iPhones running iOS 26 or later and iPads on iPadOS 26 with Find My enabled.

Longer range powered by a new Ultra Wideband chip

The second-generation Ultra Wideband chip of Apple, which is also featured in the latest iPhones and watches made by the company, is the largest upgrade. This means that now Precision Finding can operate up to 50 per cent further than it used to do.

Users receive on-screen instructions, haptic, and auditory feedback to show them where to find lost items. The longer distance allows finding the things which are deeper or concealed in inaccessible places more easily.

Precision Finding arrives on Apple Watch

For the first time, AirTag owners can use Precision Finding directly from their Apple Watch. This feature is available on Apple Watch Series 9 and newer models, including Apple Watch Ultra.

Turn-by-turn guidance appears right on the wrist, letting users track down keys or bags without reaching for their iPhone.

Louder speaker

Apple has also redesigned AirTag’s internals to include a louder speaker. The new model is up to 50 per cent louder and can be heard from roughly twice the distance compared to the earlier version.

Along with a new alert sound, this should make it simpler to find items tucked inside drawers, cushions, or backpacks.

Find My network and shared location support

Like before, AirTag relies on Apple’s Find My network when it’s out of Bluetooth range. Nearby Apple devices anonymously help relay its location back to the owner, protected by end-to-end encryption.

The updated AirTag also works with Share Item Location, allowing users to temporarily share an item’s location with trusted partners such as airlines. Apple says more than 50 airlines now support this feature, helping reduce cases of lost or delayed baggage.

Privacy safeguards and eco-friendly changes

Apple continues to position AirTag as a tracker for objects, not people or pets. The device includes cross-platform alerts and frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers to limit unwanted tracking. Apple also says it does not store location history on the AirTag itself.

Despite the internal upgrades, the tracker keeps the same compact design, ensuring compatibility with existing accessories. Apple has also improved its environmental footprint by using recycled plastics, rare earth elements, and gold, with fully fibre-based, recyclable packaging.

With stronger tracking, broader device support, and familiar pricing, the new AirTag aims to make finding everyday items faster and simpler, without compromising on privacy.
