New Delhi: Apple Inc. is in the process of restructuring its senior management because the Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams will leave the company soon. The relocation will increase the duties of some of the top managers of the company, as the company is increasingly interested in health and fitness services. Eddy Cue, the chief of services, will lead the Apple teams in health and fitness, and Craig Federighi will be in charge of the operating system of the Apple Watch.

The shifts precede the introduction by Apple of a new subscription product, Health+, that will provide AI-based wellness advice. The reorganisation will bring about unity in leadership over health and fitness programmes so that there is one central approach to the wellness services provided by the company.

The health and fitness groups, which used to be under the management of Sumbul Desai and Jay Blahnik, will be merged with Desai under Cue as her supervisor. Blahnik will now report to Desai. Cue, who is already in charge of Apple TV+, Music, iCloud, and Maps, will include health services in his portfolio. The shift by Apple is an indication of their desire to make wellness a primary business unit, as Fitness+ has been a successful product since its launch in 2020.

Expanded roles for key executives

Craig Federighi, who is famed for presenting high-profile products, will now be in charge of watchOS along with Siri and visionOS. Hardware engineering of the Apple Watch will come under the full control of John Ternus, the head of hardware. Upon the departure of Williams, other divisions, such as hardware and software design, will report to the CEO, Tim Cook. These are part of a wider executive reorganisation, and there could be leave-taking and role shifts in Apple in the AI, environmental, and chip units.

The new Health+ subscription that will be launched in 2026, which will be promoted by Apple, will have an individual voice assistant that will assist users in overall nutrition, sleep, and physical activity. The company is definitely placing its bets on its health programmes to lead its future growth by consolidating its leadership to give it a stronger foothold in the wellness market.
