Apple is set to launch the much-anticipated Apple Watch Ultra 3, to complete a protracted period of approximately two years since its last significant overhaul. The new model is set to be released in September as part of Apple's fall event, which is usually done on the iPhone and Apple Watch lines.
Apple did not launch a new Ultra last year and simply added a new colour to the Ultra 2. However, this year it has some reports of a total upgrade. It is expected that the launch event will occur sometime around Monday, September 8, where pre-orders will begin within the same week, and the official release may follow the said date on Friday, September 19.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 is rumoured to have a number of upgrades which makes it equivalent to Series 10. It has an updated LTPO3 OLED screen, permitting a more flexible refresh rate and viewing angle, and even more when turned on constantly. There is also the anticipation of a more powerful chip, S10, Series 10, or a totally new top unit S11 chip, potentially optimised with AI in the future in watchOS 26.
Apple is also said to be launching completely new features in the Ultra 3. Some of the most discussed include detection of high blood pressure, satellite messaging, and 5G cellular support. These features are meant to boost the outdoor watching popularity of the watch as well as its attractiveness to those who are interested in health.
The fall event of Apple tends to follow a regular pattern. Plans were subject to change, but September 15 falls in the middle of the month, which would match earlier tendencies with the Apple Watch Ultra 3. According to rumours, the Ultra 3 promises to create the most significant leap so far in the series of rugged smartwatches produced by Apple.
