New Delhi: ChatGPT has introduced a year-end recap experience in India, which replicates the viral Spotify Wrapped platform. The feature is called ‘Your Year with ChatGPT’ and provides users with a personalised retrospective of how they communicated with the AI chatbot throughout the year in the form of visual cards, usage metrics, and light-hearted prizes.
Although TechCrunch had initially reported it as being restricted to a few markets, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, it is currently available in India too. The access, however, seems to be limited to subscribers who pay a fee, which is an indication that OpenAI is not offering access to everyone but is increasingly rolling out the service in the world.
Your Year with ChatGPT shows the activity of a user in the past year. The experience involves the way individuals used the chatbot, their most discussed issues, and the nature of the tasks they trusted to the chatbot. Its layout is also colourful and visual and is developed in a way that is easy to swipe through, like the annual listening recap of Spotify.
An indication to watch the recap can also be seen in the form of a pop-up at the bottom of the ChatGPT home page. The feature is not automatically opened. The user has the freedom to browse or not, leaving him or her in complete authority in participation.
A major part of the recap is called ‘Your 2025 Chat Stats’. This also contains the number of messages sent, chats created, and images generated, as well as quirks like exchanging em dashes during a conversation. The point is to transform the daily usage data into something entertaining and fun.
The feature also gives customised awards according to the use patterns. An example is the title 'Creative Debugger' that may be given to those users who frequently request explanations or help to solve a problem. Moreover, ChatGPT produces a brief poem and an image based on the most frequent interests of the user, which also adds a layer of creativity to the recap.
Both the web version of ChatGPT and the iOS and Android mobile apps have the year-end review. Other than tapping the prompt on the screen, users can also start the experience manually by typing or speaking out 'Your Year with ChatGPT'.
TechCrunch shows that the recap is only accessible to the user provided they are using reference saved memories and reference chat history is enabled. The feature also requires them to have a certain amount of conversation activity throughout the year.
OpenAI has made it clear that Team, Enterprise, and Education accounts do not have the feature available to them. In India, Business Standard noted that the recap is still not accessible to the unpaid users, although the functionality is present on the site.
The small-scale rollout is an indication that OpenAI is experimenting with engagement and feedback and will make it widespread over time. To date, Your Year with ChatGPT can be viewed as a reflection tool that the user can use as well as a reminder of the extent to which AI tools are now ingrained in daily online behaviours.
