Elon Musk’s xAI launches grok-code-fast-1 to power Macrohard’s AI software vision
Elon Musk's xAI has launched grok-code-fast-1, an AI model that can write code autonomously and will be free for a limited period. The tool supports his new venture Macrohard, aimed at building software entirely through AI to rival Microsoft.
xAI has launched a new model called grok-code-fast-1, which is able to do coding tasks independently. The launch is the ambitious step of Musk into the rapidly developing market of AI-enhanced software tools, where such giants of the tech industry as Microsoft and OpenAI take their leading positions. The model will even be free of charge so that developers can get a sneak preview of its capabilities.
This launch is soon after Musk announced his new project, Macrohard, which is set to develop software entirely with the help of AI and challenge the longstanding competition, such as Microsoft. Through the application of an autonomous coding model of xAI combined with the long-term vision of Macrohard, Musk is placing himself in the middle of the next big thing in software development.
Tool features
Grok-code-fast-1 is, according to xAI, a compact, economical and highly performing code. It has immediate industry relevance, as the model is being launched in partnership with others such as GitHub Copilot and Windsurf. The bigger aim of Musk is to incorporate this technology in Macrohard that will allow the development of software with minimum input of human hands.
The shift is part of a general industry trend of introducing AI to programming. GitHub Copilot continues to grow sustainably, with Microsoft noting in May that its developers already use AI to write 20 to 30 percent of company code. This brings out the magnitude of change in software development.
OpenAI also contributed to the popularisation of AI coders. In the first half of the year, it has launched Codex to ChatGPT Plus members, indicating high demand for AI-based coding support. As the xAI of Musk is now in space, the competition between the largest AI players is going to grow.
