New Delhi: Microsoft’s GitHub has introduced a new open ecosystem called Agent HQ, which aims to place the AI code agents of various businesses, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Cognition and xAI, on the same platform. Introduced at the GitHub Universe 2025 event in San Francisco, Agent HQ is another significant milestone in the progress of GitHub as a code repository turning into a platform with complete AI application. These agents will be available as a paid subscription to GitHub Copilot, which will enable the developers to work with various AI models within their existing workflows.

GitHub claimed that the transfer is in line with its long-term vision of being the hub of AI-assisted software development in the world. The company, which has more than 180 million developers around the globe, is expanding very fast in the emerging markets like India, Brazil, and Indonesia. India is the top employer with 21.9 million developers, which is the fastest-growing and largest open-source community in GitHub.

The HQ of the agent will have a mission control panel, which enables users to deploy and control various AI agents at a time. It will also add agentic code reviews, an AI governance control panel and impact metrics as a way of measuring AI contributions in real time. According to GitHub COO Kyle Daigle, the concept is to enable a developer to build faster and more confidently by working together with multiple agents to perform a complex task.

Codex and Claude join the lineup

Beginning this week, Copilot Pro+ subscribers will be able to assign codifying tasks to OpenAI Codex in VS Code Insiders. Anthropic Claude will also get the ability to pick up issues, form branches, and adhere to pull requests as a human colleague. On GitHub, it was also disclosed that TypeScript is currently the most commonly used programming language, surpassing Python due to the explosion of typed languages that augment AI-assisted coding.
