Google is expanding its popular Photos app by launching Veo 3, the subsequent model of the video-generation device. The update improves the already existing Photo to Video feature that enables users in the U.S. to convert still images to short and high-quality video clips. The product is a tool that is located under the Create tab, and it is used to bring old photos to life and make new memories shareable.
The addition is another move towards Google trying to add advanced AI into consumer products. Google Photos is one of the largest platforms owned by the company, with more than 1.5 billion monthly active users as of May 2025. Veo 3 was initially presented at Google I/O and built into the Gemini application to remit subscribers. It has now found its way to a wider group of people on Photos.
Users are able to select a photo and have the AI create a four-second animation. The free plan will have only a few generations, whereas AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will have access to unlimited generations. As with the Gemini app, the videos will include clear and unnoticeable watermarks to indicate that they areAI-generated videos.
The new functionality is housed within the Create hub, which collects the artificial intelligence-powered features of Google Photos. Users are also able to remix photos, create collages, build montages, create cinematic 3D photos, or convert pictures into GIFs with Veo 3, along with Veo 3. These features represent the attempt by Google to transform Photos into a creative product beyond being a storage application.
