New Delhi: Instagram is preparing to dominate living room screens. The platform owned by Meta has been planning to venture into televisions after it has finally released its long-anticipated iPad app. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri affirmed that the company is considering launching a dedicated TV-based app that will make the existing content like Reels available on bigger screens. Nonetheless, Mosseri dismissed the chance of coming up with Hollywood content and live sports on Instagram TV, reiterating that the service would be focused on its own creators and short video content.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Mosseri stated that Instagram desires to be visible in an appealing manner across all the devices in which it is applicable. With the increasing consumption of content on television by more people, the company believes that it can reach further than on mobile and tablets. Instagram is also reportedly experimenting on how to scale its vertical video feature to a widescreen without reducing its ability to engage the user.
Instagram, which was originally characterised by photos, has completely transformed into a video-centred platform. When Reels was launched in 2020, user behaviour changed to enable the platform to compete with TikTok. Reels have been placed in the middle of the Instagram interface and are also visible in the iPad version and the navigation bar.
Besides video expansion, Instagram is incorporating artificial intelligence in order to make content more inclusive. The platform has recently added four languages of automatic translation of Reels, including Hindi, to enable creators to access more people. Instagram has more than 3 billion monthly users, and its next application to TV could be the next significant phase in the development of the platform: social videos under 140 seconds long in a full-fledged living room.
