A brand-new iPhone prototype, perhaps the future iPhone 17 Pro, was spotted in the wild months earlier than it would be introduced in September. The account @Skyfops posted two grainy photos of the unknown device on X (previously Twitter). The post immediately took off once Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared it and said, “This looks legit,” though it is unclear whether he was being serious or sarcastic.
The pictures indicate the presence of a person who is holding a device that seems to be concealed in a large black case, probably to disguise its shape. The other iPhone, likely a 16 Pro, is also depicted with the sticker on the back of it—potentially covering the internal tracking markers of Apple. Although it is not confirmed, the camera arrangement of the device is similar to the changes that are rumoured to be in the iPhone 17 Pro, making the speculation more possible.
As per the current leaks, the iPhone 17 Pro will supposedly have a redesigned rear camera bump, and the components may be arranged vertically, consisting of the LiDAR scanner and the LED flash. One of the pictures shows a phone with two circular cutouts on the upper-right area that may be able to fit this new arrangement. Nevertheless, it is hard to check anything based on the case.
To add to the mystery, @Skyfops asserts that a security individual tried to cover the device from the eyes of the people. This may help prove the point that the device is secretive, but it may as well be a misinterpretation or overstatement. The photos, shot in Los Angeles, do not tell much that was not already rumoured.
True or false, this sighting is stirring a kind of nostalgia like in the early days of iPhone leaks in the early 2010s. As Apple has not yet launched its September event, this little leak is keeping the fans excited and waiting to hear the official news.
