ChatGPT 5 has been released by OpenAI, the most advanced AI system to date, offering its users worldwide what it describes as PhD-level knowledge of any topic. The new model supersedes all the existing OpenAI products, such as the O-series and the previous versions of ChatGPT, and combines all the AI functions into a single, unified interface. As opposed to the older models, in which deep reasoning was optional, GPT-5 is able to automatically determine when it is necessary to utilise deep reasoning mode in order to accomplish complex tasks.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the GPT-5 is a significant breakthrough, which feels like conversing with an expert in any topic. Comparing the upgrade to the switch between early iPad displays and Retina, he said, “It feels like the first time it really feels like you are talking to someone who knows everything.” The system promises to give quicker and more correct answers, and its aim is to decrease factual mistakes and exact behaviour of instructions.
According to OpenAI, GPT-5 is its strongest coding model yet and is able to perform highly technical frontend design, as well as debug large amounts of code. It is able to create responsive websites, applications and games with just a single prompt, and it also has a blend of technical accuracy and aesthetic design. The company shows high levels of advancements in developing attractive and functional digital products that require low user input.
The accuracy of GPT-5 is one of its most important developments. OpenAI purports to be 45 per cent less prone to factual inaccuracies than GPT-4o, and when in what the company promises is thinking mode, it is 80 per cent more accurate than the o3 model. This makes it more secure to use in research, technical work and professions.
ChatGPT 5 has three versions: Mini, Regular, and Pro. The regular version is available to free and paid users by default, and the mini version is activated when the usage limits are exceeded. The Pro version is even more capable and has maximum performance and costs $200/month. GPT-5 is now the default for all signed-in users and is rolling out worldwide beginning today.
