New Delhi: OpenAI has introduced a significant update to its image-generation features, deploying a new ChatGPT Images feature that directly competes with Google's wildly popular Nano Banana. The update presents the new flagship image model of OpenAI, GPT Image 1.5, now implemented in ChatGPT as well as accessible to developers via the OpenAI API.

The transfer coincides with an increase in competition between Google and OpenAI. OpenAI is not wasting any more time; as mere days after the release of GPT-5.2, it is doubling efforts with increased image-generation speed, more precise edits, and consistency in outputs. According to the company, the new model is able to produce images with a speed up to four times faster without losing fine details and following the instructions of the users strictly.

A sharper, faster image model

The article OpenAI claims that GPT Image 1.5 should ensure the reliability of image creation and editing. Users are able to create images or even edit the already existing images with more accuracy. It is about clean results, predictable details, and fewer surprising items across generations – a long-standing AI image tool pain point.

The revision is more perfect than an invention. Nevertheless, initial tests that OpenAI has published reveal the significant progress in realism, control over light, and consistency of objects (in particular, when target edits to existing images are made).

New Images tab inside ChatGPT

OpenAI has added a special Images tab in the ChatGPT application and web interface. The new section is a creation hub and discovery feed that gives the user an opportunity to experiment with visual prompts and explore ideas that may improve their search process.

According to OpenAI, it is supposed to make the generation of images more natural and inspiring. The Images tab is designed with an aim of inspiring exploration, as opposed to prompts.

ChatGPT vs Nano Banana Google

The Nano Banana, Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, has rapidly become popular due to its speed; it is easy to use. It has already been built into Gemini, Google Photos, Search and Messages, which provides Google with enormous reach.

GPT Image 1.5 has achieved an instant splash notwithstanding such momentum. It is said to have reached the number one position in the text-to-image ranking on LMArena, relegating Nano Banana Pro to second place. Comparisons in real life, however, have yielded mixed results to date, with both tools giving similar edits of the same prompts.

How to try ChatGPT Images

ChatGPT Images is a new tool being rolled out worldwide and is likely to be available at present. It is accessible to users by browsing ChatGPT by the Images tab or directly at chatgpt.com/images. The free user will have limited access, and the paid plans will provide extensive usage.

Through the OpenAI API, developers also can begin using GPT Image 1.5. The prices can be found on the OpenAI site, and third-party applications and services can be using the new image model right now.
