New Delhi: Google Maps has introduced a new group of features in a bid to simplify the hectic holiday season. Having been updated with Google Gemini, the app now has smarter suggestions, faster discovery features and support for EV drivers, which are all created to ensure that users can save time and feel more prepared. The boosts come as individuals prepare to travel, eat, and shop towards the end of the year all over the globe.

The new features include the local recommendations, EV charging prediction, better ways to explore nearby spots, and privacy-friendly update on reviews. The majority of the tools will roll out worldwide this month in Android, iOS, and web, and EV-related enhancements will come next week on vehicles with Android Auto or Google installed.

Google Maps is launching an AI-powered tips section on the place cards that provides more information about restaurants, venues and attractions. Gemini uses community reviews to extract useful information, including dress codes, reservation tips, menu tips or parking tips. Android and iOS have made the feature available in the U.S.

A smarter explore tab

The Explore tab has also been designed to enable the discovery of trending spots much quicker and easier. The swipe up is now available so that the user can see what is popular in their neighbourhood, nearby sights, activities and curated lists by partners like OpenTable, Lonely Planet, Viator and local influencers. The update is being implemented across the world during the month.

Now, drivers have the option of searching EV chargers and receiving predictions, which are powered by AI, and display the busyness of a station when a driver arrives there. The system combines both the historical and real-time data to make the wait time shorter and assist the user in planning the stops more effectively. Android Auto and cars with Google built-in features are starting to roll out next week.

Google Maps is also introducing the possibility to leave the review using a nickname and profile picture. This provides users with increased privacy without being authentic, as all the reviews are still connected to one Google account under the hood. This update is going live in the entire world this month on mobile and web.
