New Delhi: Starlink is preparing to launch its satellite-based internet service in India, and the initial preparations have already begun. The company has started working with state governments and establishing local offices in order to test the nationwide rollout. Its recent collaboration with the Maharashtra government is an indication that it is on a frenzy to introduce high-speed satellite connectivity to the underserved and remote areas.
Although the service has not yet been completely approved, industry expectations have it that all the outstanding approvals may be clarified by the close of the year. In the event that is so, Starlink can start doing business in India as early as the first quarter of 2026. Social areas that will first be rolled out will be those with low levels of broadband connectivity, which will be aligned with the connectivity objectives of India.
Starlink is yet to get the go-ahead from various government departments before it can technically join the market. After the clearance, the firm is supposed to focus on areas that have a weak internet infrastructure. The Indian government too has limited the number of users that Starlink can provide at its entry, limiting the service to 20 lakh users in the country.
It is said that the monthly subscription of Starlink can begin at approximately Rs 3300 and can increase to Rs 6000 as per the plan. The hardware kit will also require a one time set up fee of approximately Rs 30000. The speed is projected to be 25 Mbps to 225 Mbps, with the lower one probably being the basic one. This information is pegged on spillage and rough calculations; thus, the final pricing and performance might vary after the service is officially launched.
