New Delhi: Apple CEO Tim Cook says the initial demand of the new iPhone 17 series has been more than anticipated, and there is scarcity of supply in the key markets. In an Apple Q4 2025 earnings call, Cook would not disaggregate the annual sales by model but indicated that both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are generating a high amount of consumer demand. The recent smartphones of the company seem to be doing well even though they were not launched on a wide platform in the quarter.

The revenue generated by Apple stood at $102.47 billion during the quarter ending on September 27, and this is an 8 percent increase over a period of one year. According to Cook, Apple was limited by supply, and it indicated that the company had undercalculated initial demand. This direction had already been indicated by analysts based on manufacturing orders and first sales.

iPhone Air takes a back seat

The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models are registering increased volumes in production, but the iPhone Air appears to be trailing. Cook briefly mentioned the model, and it is said that Apple has relegated the model to an end-of-cycle production phase. It means a drop in consumer reaction in relation to the flagship versions.

Another issue that Cook raised is that Apple had supply limitations with the iPhone 16 during the quarter, which indicated the presence of consistent demand even prior to the iPhone 17 release. He claimed that the company would have sold additional units had there been availability of supply. Following the successful launch of the iPhone 17 and the remaining demand for the iPhone 16, the smartphone business of Apple seems to be heading into another successful sales period leading up to the holiday season.
