Uber launches pilot program to let drivers earn from digital AI tasks
Uber has launched a pilot program in India that lets drivers earn extra income by completing digital tasks such as labeling images and classifying text through the Uber app. The initiative is active in 12 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
Uber has introduced an Indian pilot scheme that can enable its driver partners to make additional income by undertaking digital assignments through the Uber application. The project, which is being piloted in 12 cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, is aimed at offering drivers an added source of income during off-peak periods.
The programme incorporates easy AI-assisted tasks, including labelling photographs, categorising words, counting things, and scanning receipts. These are essential activities in training artificial intelligence systems and were managed in the past by outside contractors. Uber is now providing an opportunity for its drivers to participate in this expanding digital economy.
Making downtime more productive
Uber believes that most of the drivers experience times of slow ride demand throughout the day. Providing digital assignments, the company wants to make those hours more effective and provide drivers with more freedom and options. Megha Yethadka, Global Head of Uber AI Solutions, indicated that the initial response has been good and it has already completed thousands of tasks through driver partners.
Uber AI Solutions is joining forces with international businesses to provide them with data labelling and product testing services. Should the pilot turn out to be successful in India, then the model can be implemented globally. This would give the network of millions of drivers and delivery partners that Uber has access to the opportunity to contribute to and enjoy the growing AI-driven economy.
