The federal agent who shot and killed the woman, Renee Good, in Minneapolis is an Iraq War veteran named Jonathan Ross. According to The Associated Press, he has served in the Border Patrol and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement for almost 20 years.

Since 2015, he has been a deportation officer of ICE, and last summer, he suffered serious injury when the vehicle of a fleeing suspect dragged him. While federal officials have not revealed the name or any details of the officer who shot Good, a 37-year-old mother, reports suggest that it was Ross who fatally opened fire.

Ross was with the Indiana National Guard when he was deployed to Iraq from 2004 to 2005, where he worked as a machine gunner of a combat patrol team. After returning from Iraq in 2005, he went to college and joined the Border Patrol in 2007 near El Paso, Texas and served there till 2015.

He joined ICE in 2015 and is working as a deportation officer based in Minnesota. He is assigned to fugitive operations, and he was dragged down the street once when he tried to arrest a person, despite Ross using his Taser.

Defended by Trump, administration

Trump has defended the ICE agent's actions, but said while playing a video of the shooting, "With all of it being said, no, I don't like that happening. That was a vicious situation that took place. It's a terrible scene. I think it's horrible to watch. No, I hate to see it." DHS assistant Tricia McLaughlin also defended Ross and said, “He acted according to his training. This officer is a longtime ICE officer who has been serving his country his entire life."
