'Chinese leader were in constant touch': Pakistan now backs Beijing's mediation claims on Operation Sindoor

Pakistan has endorsed China's claims that it helped mediate peace between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor in May 2025. China is the second country to claim that it helped broker peace between the 2 sides. The first is the US. Pakistan's foreign office claimed that Beijing was in constant touch with the 2 sides and used diplomacy to help end the conflict. India has denied these claims repeatedly.

New Delhi: Pakistan has backed Beijing's claim that it helped mediate between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor in May 2025. There was a major conflict between the 2 neighbours (India and Pakistan), after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, of which 25 were Indians. Post the attack on tourists India announced Operation Sindoor to flush out terrorists in Pakistan, who were responsible for the attack.

China was in constant touch during Operation Sindoor: Pakistan

Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said, "Chinese leaders were in constant touch with Pakistan's leadership and also made certain contacts with the Indian leadership, during those 3-4 days, between May 6 to May 10."

He claimed that the Chinese might have been in touch with the 2 sides even prior to that and some days after that.

He said that these diplomatic contacts and exchanges were fruitful and helped "bring down the temperatures and tried to bring peace and security in the region." He said "that's why I think Chinese characterisation of mediation is correct."

However Pakistan's delayed acknowledgement of China's involvement in brokering peace between the 2 neighbours, has raised several eyebrows. This is also because, so far the country has credited US and President Donald Trump in particular for ending hostilities with India, during Operation Sindoor.

India meanwhile has continued to maintain that the hostilities were paused after a direct request was made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. They have constantly denied any role of the US or any third party in mediation talks. India also dismissed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's claim that Beijing had mediated during the India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025.

Pakistan on the other hand called China's intervention "diplomacy for peace, for prosperity, for security." The country's Foreign Office spokesperson Andrabi, further claimed that "this has been a hallmark of a number of international efforts that went into resolving that conflict in those 3-4 fateful days." He added, "Pakistan firmly supported China's position as stated by its foreign minister."

China's claims are similar to repeated assertions by US President Donald Trump that he helped end the India-Pakistan conflict, after Operation Sindoor was launched by India. Not only has Trump claimed to have ended that war but several other conflicts across the world.
