Did 8 peace deals: Trump repeats claim of role in India-Pakistan ceasefire post Operation Sindoor
US President Donald Trump once again repeated his claim of having helped bring about peace between India and Pakistan, post Operation Sindoor. He said that he threatened both the countries with very high tariff rates and forced them to call for a ceasefire. India has repeatedly denied any external involvement in the conflict. They said that India stopped firing after an appeal from Pakistan.
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he helped bring about peace between India and Pakistan in May. This was after India launched Operation Sindoor and attacked terror infrastructure inside Pakistan. The US President has now claimed a role in bringing about the ceasefire at least 60 times.
Trump's remark during meeting with New York mayor elect Zohran Mamdani
The remarks came during a meeting with New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani was at the White House on Friday for his first formal interaction with the President. This was his first meeting with Donald Trump, post winning the mayor election.
During the meeting, which took place at the Oval office, Trump recalled the May confrontation between India and Pakistan. He was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, "I did 8 peace deals with countries, including India and Pakistan."
Even earlier this week, the US President had claimed that he threatened both India and Pakistan with very high tariffs, so that they would agree to a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, India has repeatedly denied any role of the US President in the ceasefire, post Operation Sindoor. The country had launched the military operation in response to the attack by terrorists on Indian tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. Post the killing of 26 people by terrorists, India decided to avenge the deaths and launched an attack on Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir on May 7.
Drones and exchange of missiles continued for 4 days and ceasefire finally happened on May 10. India said that a request to end the hostilities came from the Pakistan side and India decided to stop the fire. They said that after suffering heavy losses, Pakistan appealed to India to stop the attack.
Meanwhile, Mamdani is the first South Asian and Muslim mayor of New York. His win is being termed as a historic one.
