New Delhi: In a development that has taken the world by storm, the United States has captured and extracted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from his own country. It has triggered a raging row all over the world, with everyone waiting to see what happens next.

Nicolás Maduro's connection with Sathya Sai Baba

Sathya Sai Baba, the late Indian spiritual saint, had devotees from all parts of the world. Devotees considered it a great privilege to have an interview, and sometimes a single person, group, or family was invited for a private interview so they could ask for answers to spiritual questions or for general guidance.

However, it may still come as a surprise that Nicolas Maduro was a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba. Yes, you read that right. He was a Catholic, but that did not stop him from revering Sathya Sai Baba. He even had a portrait of the saint at Miraflores Palace, the President's official residence in Caracas, alongside Venezuelan revolutionary icons Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez.

When Nicolás Maduro met Sathya Sai Baba

In 2005, Maduro was Venezuela's Foreign Minister, and he visited India to meet Sathya Sai Baba in Andhra Pradesh at that time. His wife, Cilia Flores, reportedly introduced Maduro to the spiritual saint as they went to the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram to meet him. They had a private audience with him as Maduro sat on the floor at his feet.

It is interesting to note that the first Sathya Sai International Organization outside India was established in Caracas in the 1970s. After he passed away in 2011, a day of national mourning was observed in Venezuela. Notably, on November 23, 2025, Maduro spoke on the saint's 100th birth anniversary by saying, "May the wisdom of this great teacher continue to enlighten us.”
