New Delhi: The rumours about former Prime Minister Imran Khan's health have been dispelled after his sister, Dr Uzma Khanum, met him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday afternoon. Notably, Khan's supporters have staged massive protests across the country, demanding the release of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief.

What has Imran Khan said to his sister?

Uzma Khanum spoke to the reporters after meeting Khan and informed them that "He is doing well, fit, and alive. He is fine but very angry. He said they are subjecting him to mental torture and not allowing him to communicate with anyone." She said that Khan "is locked in his cell all day and can only step out for short periods." Khan had reportedly blamed General Asim Munir for his incarceration and condition while speaking with his sister.

Khan's family had been demanding for several weeks to meet him as they sought proof from the authorities that he was alive. As Khanum entered the prison, numerous supporters of Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), gathered outside the complex.

The supporters of the former Pakistan PM have protested in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, leading to the prohibition of large gatherings in those two cities. However, followers still staged agitation outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, last month, Uzma and two other sisters of Khan, Noreen Niazi and Aleema Khan, were assaulted for asking to meet with him. It triggered massive protests in Pakistan, as both Khan’s son and sister publicly demanded evidence that he is alive.

Moreover, Aleema filed a contempt of court petition against the Adiala Jail superintendent and others after they did not allow her to meet Khan. One of his sons, Kasim Khan, told Reuters there had been no direct or verifiable contact despite a court order for weekly meetings.
