New Delhi: In Virginia, a southern state in the US, there was a rumour of the mass abduction of children. While the Virginia State Police have debunked those claims circulated on social media, there were new rumours that a suspicious ice cream truck is being spotted every night.
The rumours surfaced due to the cases of 100 children reportedly missing there. In every incident, complaints were filed with law enforcement agencies across Virginia from August 3 to 9. However, as per the officials, the cases have no link with each other.
There are several viral videos on TikTok which have compiled cases of children reported missing in Virginia. One video reportedly shows a list of missing children from the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children’s website, and these videos have become hugely viral.
A Facebook post has added another conspiracy theory by saying, “Have y’all been seeing those stories on a lot of missing kids across VA over the past week & an ice truck keeps going through every night late,” the post reads. “I’ve been slowly following it.” In the comment section of the post, netizens have expressed their fear, with some claiming to have spotted the ice-cream truck and fearing for the safety of their children.
Virginia State Police has dismissed the rumours and said that it "is aware of multiple social media posts raising concerns about missing children across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia State Police is not investigating any reports of mass abductions in Virginia, nor is there evidence of mass abductions occurring in Virginia.” The rumours have also been dismissed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
