New Delhi: Panic broke out at Paris’s world-famous Louvre Museum following reports of a robbery that led to the evacuation of visitors. France’s Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed that a theft had occurred at the museum, which houses Leonardo da Vinci’s legendary Mona Lisa.
According to AFP, the suspects allegedly escaped with jewellery. Authorities immediately shut down the museum for the day as precautionary measures were enforced. Videos circulating online showed long lines of visitors exiting the building, while another clip captured heightened security presence outside the site.
Situated in the heart of Paris, the Louvre attracts thousands of tourists daily and remains one of the most visited museums in the world.
